The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) on Monday announced that its Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) became the second airport in the world to have been conferred with the BS 25999-2:2007 certification for its business continuity management systems (BCMS) by the British Standard Institution.
BIAL, in a press release, said: “This certification was achieved after following a stringent process lasting almost 10 months. By achieving this honour, BIAL becomes the first airport in the Asia Pacific region and second in the global civil aviation industry to be certified with a BS 25999-2:2007.”
BIAL embarked on its BCMS certification process in January 2011. Extensive risk assessments, various impact analyses, and recovery planning of its every process spread across the organisation were taken up. The entire BCMS of the airport went through repeated internal auditing and regressive third party audits.
Sanjay Reddy, Managing Director, BIAL said: “In working towards these certifications, BIAL has scrutinised and tested every aspect of the company’s operation and developed an integrated approach that can help resume operation after unforeseen event or disaster.”
