A five-minute drive stretches to 45 min

No end in sight to completion of Sarjapur Road-Marathalli Junction flyover that was to be ready in March 2011

Its only a 5-10 minutes drive from Bellandur to Marathalli. But thanks to the never-ending flyover construction work at Sarjapur Road-Marathalli Junction, now it takes 45 minutes to reach either destination.Work on the flyover has been dragging on for the last two years, leaving motorists fuming.
By the time I reach home in the evening,I would have inhaled a lot of dust, giving me a big headache. The problem is acute at the entrance of Ecospace Business Park at Bellandur, said Rama D,a technical writer who commutes from Mahadevapura to BTM Layout on her two-wheeler.
The construction work, monitored by Bangalore Development Authority, started on December 11,2009.The authorities had said it would be completed by March this year.
The flyover, whose cost escalated from Rs 36.55 crore to Rs 41.72 crore,is far from ready.Though BDA sources said both sides of the flyover would be opened for traffic in the first week of next month, engineers admit only 50-60 per cent of the work is complete.
They blame the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board for the delay.BDA executive engineer Nagendra, who is overseeing its construction, said,We cant complete work by this month-end as were facing traffic problems because BWSSB has dug up the service roads.
Meanwhile, the flyover works have resulted in a muddy mess, affecting those whose offices are located in Whitefield,Marathalli,Mahadevapura,Koramangala,Hoskote and KR Puram.A techie who works in Marathalli said,If it rains,we have no choice but to get muddy water splashed all over us.Every day I return home with a headache.
Basavaraj,an auto driver, said,Due to potholes on the main and service roads, vehicles move at a snails pace. From Bellandur to Devara Bisanahalli, its a torturous 45-minute drive and frequent changing of gears.
Chetan,a second year student from New Horizon College of Engineering, had a similar tale to narrate. Most of the times,I miss the first hour.Even if I leave HSR Layout at 8.10 am on my motorbike,I am not able to attend the 9 am class.

Construction of the flyover began in December 2009
